Description
The Franciscan Monastery in northeast Washington, DC was created in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century by the Very Reverend Charles A. Vassani and Father Godfrey Schilling. Their purpose was to create a "Holy Land in America" by presenting replicas of sites in the Holy Land. The Franciscan Monastery includes a memorial church, grottoes, catacombs and gardens.
